LMPD Names Officers in Fatal Hurstborne Acres Shooting

Louisville Metro Police have identified the officers involved in a fatal shooting that occurred on December 4 at an apartment complex in Hurstborne Acres. Officers Michael Crowe and Austin Taylor discharged their weapons after instructing a man to drop his weapon. The man was pronounced dead at the scene despite aid rendered by the officers.
Officer Michael Crowe, who joined LMPD in 2017, had previously received a letter of reprimand in December 2022 for violating pursuit and body camera policies during a 2021 police shooting. However, he was exonerated of violating use of deadly force and deescalation policies in that incident.
Officer Austin Taylor, who joined LMPD in 2020, had received one letter of reprimand for failing to appear in court. The department stated that body camera footage from the December 4 shooting is anticipated to be released to the public within ten business days, as per policy.
