In a disturbing case, a 35-year-old man from Lincolnshire, James Chater, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for raping a woman. The conviction came after a trial at Lincoln Crown Court, where Chater, of no fixed address but from the Sleaford area, was found guilty.
Chater's crimes did not stop there. He also admitted to two further charges of harassment and strangulation. As a result of his heinous actions, he has been added to the sex offenders register and given a sexual harm prevention order.
Trainee Detective Constable Kieron Stewart praised the victim's bravery, stating that without her courage, Chater could still be on the streets. The detective emphasized that this sentence sends a clear message to any would-be offenders that the authorities will pursue them and exhaust all available lines of inquiry.
