A man who police allege possessed body armor-piercing bullets is now in custody following a vehicle pursuit and subsequent chase into the woods near Lilburn Elementary School. The incident began last Saturday around 1 a.m. when an officer attempted to pull the suspect over for swerving and running a stop sign.
The suspect's vehicle ultimately drove into a dead-end townhome lot, and he fled on foot into the adjacent woods. A K9 unit successfully tracked the suspect to a nearby street, where he was found hiding between two cars. During the investigation, officers discovered a rifle in the trunk of the suspect's abandoned car, along with nearly a pound of marijuana, four THC vapes, and a digital scale.
Authorities noted the suspect was reportedly high on marijuana while driving and that the presence of body armor-piercing rounds in his weapon raised significant concerns about his intentions. The suspect, who stated he panicked and ran, faces charges in Lilburn and has outstanding warrants in Rockdale County. He remains incarcerated.
