Chicago rapper Lil Durk, whose legal name is Durk Banks, is facing charges of ordering a murder-for-hire. Prosecutors allege the act was retaliation for the 2020 killing of his friend, King Von.
He is accused of placing a bounty on rival rapper Quando Rondo, whose associates allegedly fired on Bowman's vehicle. While Bowman survived, his cousin, Lul Pab, was killed in the August 2022 incident.
The defense presented a rapid series of witnesses on Thursday. Lashanta Hester, wife of a cooperating witness, disputed her husband's testimony about travel arrangements. She denied hearing Banks direct her husband to travel to California.
Shekema Springfield, who previously dated King Von, also testified. She aimed to rebut claims by another cooperating witness, Kavon Grant, who worked as Banks' assistant. Springfield described Grant as a "liar and a thief."
Grant had testified that Banks initiated the shooting after learning Quando Rondo would be in Los Angeles. He claimed Banks directed him to obtain a stolen vehicle for the attack.
Grant stated he drove the gunmen to an In-N-Out after the shooting. He testified that Banks appeared "excited" and "joyful" upon learning of Robinson's death.
Banks, 33, has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy, stalking, and murder-for-hire charges. His lawyer suggested Grant organized the shooting plot without Banks' knowledge, driven by revenge for King Von's death.
Kevin Freeman, director of Banks' nonprofit, testified about a phone call with Banks on the day of his arrest. FBI agent Conor Goepel tracked Banks to a private terminal at Miami International Airport. Agents found no passports or fake identification in the vehicle Banks occupied.
