Lil Durk Trial: Lyrics as Evidence?
20 Aug
Summary
- Lil Durk faces federal trial for murder-for-hire charges.
- Prosecutors will use his song lyrics as evidence.
- Co-defendants and associates also face charges in the case.

Federal jury selection begins on August 20, 2026, for rapper Lil Durk's murder-for-hire trial. He is accused of ordering members of his Only the Family (OTF) label to kill rival rapper Quando Rondo in retaliation for the 2020 death of King Von.
Durk, born Durk Banks, denies the allegations and maintains his innocence, stating prosecutors lack evidence linking him to the 2022 shooting where Rondo survived but another man, Lul Pab, was killed. Durk was not in Los Angeles at the time of the incident.
A notable aspect of the trial is the prosecution's intent to use lyrics from three of Durk's top-charting songs, including "Ahhh Ha," as evidence of motive. Durk's legal team argues that his lyrics are being twisted and do not prove criminal intent.
Also standing trial are OTF associates Deandre "OTF Dede" Wilson and David "Browneyez" Lindsey, who allegedly traveled from Chicago to Los Angeles on Durk's orders. Several alleged co-conspirators have agreed to testify for the prosecution in exchange for leniency.
If convicted, Lil Durk and his co-defendants could face life in prison. The group also faces separate racketeering charges for alleged gang-related murders, which were added in June 2026 and excluded from this initial trial.
