A special Pocso court in Muzaffarnagar has handed down a life sentence to a 30-year-old man for the severe sexual assault of a one-and-a-half-year-old infant. This swift trial concluded in just 21 days.
The court ordered the convict to serve a sentence for the remainder of his natural life and levied a Rs 2 lakh fine, designated for the child's medical care and rehabilitation. An additional two years in prison will be served if the fine is not paid.
The court expressed dismay at the 'alarming erosion of moral values in society,' citing social media's negative influence on young minds. The crime took place on March 12, when the accused lured the toddler away, only to return her later with critical internal injuries.
Special public prosecutors presented seven witnesses and crucial evidence during the rapid trial. The man was convicted under BNS section 65(2) and Sections 5(M/N)/6 of the Pocso Act.
