A fast-track court in Thiruvananthapuram has handed a life sentence to Adam Ali, aged 24, for the murder of Manorama, a 68-year-old retired government employee. The court also imposed a Rs 90,000 fine, directing the amount to Manorama's husband.
Ali, originally from West Bengal, made a dramatic attempt to escape from the courtroom just before the proceedings began. However, legal staff and police swiftly recaptured him. The murder occurred on August 7, 2022, during an attempted robbery at Manorama's residence in Kesavadasapuram.
Prosecutors argued that Ali, a migrant construction worker, entered the house with intent to steal, fatally stabbing and strangling Manorama before disposing of her body in a nearby well. He was apprehended at Thampanoor railway station while attempting to flee to his native state, with six sovereigns of jewelry reported missing.
