A 70-year-old lawyer, Gayadeen Ahirwar, president of the Kalpi Bar Association, was allegedly abducted and murdered. The incident occurred on Saturday at Durga temple crossing on the Kanpur-Jhansi Highway in Jalaun. Ahirwar was reportedly lured into a car by three men posing as clients interested in discussing a case.
His body was discovered on Sunday morning in a pond located in Kanpur's Sachendi area. Preliminary examination revealed deep cut wounds on his face, back, and head. The exact cause of death is pending a postmortem examination. Police have detained three suspects in connection with the crime, with initial investigations pointing towards a land dispute as the motive.
Ahirwar, a senior advocate, had visited the Orai court in Jalaun before his abduction. His son stated that Ahirwar had called to be picked up before meeting with a client. The suspects, who were in a white SUV without a number plate, allegedly invited Ahirwar into their vehicle under the pretext of discussing case details and offering refreshments. His family raised the alarm when his phone became unreachable.
