23 Nov, 2025
Summary
- A pensioner lost half a million pounds in an investment scam.
- A law firm was used to receive scam payments.
- The solicitor leading the firm has been banned from practice.

A Stoke-on-Trent law firm, Kenneth Jones Solicitors, has been shut down by legal regulators after being implicated in a severe investment scam. The firm's director, Ajaz Ali, has been banned from practicing law. This action comes after an 81-year-old pensioner lost his entire life savings of £500,000.
The scam utilized a cloned investment firm, tricking the victim into believing he was investing in legitimate loan bonds. He was instructed to send his substantial funds to Kenneth Jones Solicitors' bank account. Despite the law firm's apparent legitimacy, it was used as a conduit for the fraudulent scheme.
Regulators found reason to suspect dishonesty on the part of Ajaz Ali. The Solicitors Regulation Authority's investigation led to the firm's closure and Ali's prohibition from legal practice. Ali was also recently fined £40,000 for separate misconduct involving a property sale that left another elderly individual in emergency accommodation.
