19 Jul
Summary
- Larry Millete was convicted of murdering his wife, Maya Millete.
- Maya Millete disappeared in January 2021 and was never found.
- Evidence included spellcaster communications and neighbor recordings.

Maya Millete disappeared from her Chula Vista home in January 2021, and her husband, Larry Millete, was arrested for her murder in October 2021. A jury found Larry Millete guilty of first-degree murder on July 9, 2026. Maya, who immigrated from the Philippines, was a devoted mother of three and worked as a supervisor contract specialist.
Evidence presented during the trial indicated significant marital troubles. Larry had reportedly contacted spellcasters to place a hex on Maya, believing it would keep her in the marriage. Investigators also noted suspicious activities, including newly repaired holes in their bedroom door and wall, and recorded sounds of bangs from a neighbor's surveillance system.
Despite Maya's body never being found, the prosecution presented a strong circumstantial case. This included emails from Larry expressing desperation and homicidal ideation, as well as his purchase of an illegal assault weapon. Larry Millete was found guilty and faces up to 25 years to life in prison. Maya's family was granted custody of their three children in August 2024.
