A landowner in Stockton, Norfolk, is confronting a potential £500,000 clean-up cost after discovering 1,200 tons of illegal waste on his four-acre property. Peter Dive, who found the extensive dump last May, estimates the sum required to remove the household and recycling rubbish. The waste has occupied the site for nine months, transforming it into an unusable and dangerous area.
The incident has caused significant distress, with Mr. Dive expressing fears of bankruptcy if forced to bear the cost. Documents found within the waste suggest it originated from household bins in Bedfordshire. The Environment Agency confirmed that three men were arrested and are under investigation concerning the suspected illegal waste site near Norwich.
Mr. Dive is urging authorities to expedite the investigation and address fly-tipping on private land more effectively. He noted the agency possesses CCTV evidence of individuals depositing the waste. Central Bedfordshire council stated they are not part of the investigation and cannot comment on costs.
