- Forgery involved unauthorized digitization and fake government documents.

Mohammed Hussain, an Assistant Director of Land Records in Srirangapatna, has been arrested for his alleged role in forging government land records. He was found in a separate ward at the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), reportedly without a legitimate medical justification for hospitalization and accompanied by a woman claiming to be his girlfriend.
Judicial officials conducted a surprise inspection of the hospital on Monday, discovering Hussain's presence. Inquiries with hospital authorities indicated no illness requiring his admission. The superintendent of Mandya jail confirmed Hussain had been admitted to MIMS since August 21, based on the jail's medical officer's advice, though the court had not been informed.
Reports are being compiled by the jail superintendent, police, and MIMS hospital superintendent. Admitting an accused without court permission and the presence of an unauthorized visitor constitute clear legal violations. Hussain was arrested for allegedly assisting in the unauthorized digitization of land records and creating fake government documents related to revenue department transactions.
The forgery racket at the Srirangapatna land records office was uncovered by Lokayukta police on July 2, 2026, leading to the arrest of approximately nine individuals. Hussain faces charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita and is currently in judicial custody.
