The Jodhpur jail has a reputation for being home to a diverse array of inmates, including gangsters, terrorists from Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir, film celebrities, and even convicts like Asaram. In the past, the jail has also gained attention for housing dreaded militants and separatists during the peak of terrorism in the 1980s, as well as Bollywood actor Salman Khan following his convictions in the blackbuck poaching case.
Aside from Wangchuk, the Jodhpur jail also currently houses Asaram, who was convicted of rape in a 2018 case and has been under arrest since 2013. The jail has also been the temporary home of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and former state ministers Mahipal Maderna and Malkhan Singh Bishnoi, who were implicated in the Bhanwari Devi abduction and murder case that rocked Rajasthan politics in 2011.
