A Los Angeles-based Sea Scout troop has a new vessel after their sailboat, 'Island Hopper,' was stolen from its dock in Marina del Rey between March 17 and March 21. The perpetrators even swapped the boat's identification number onto a rundown replacement.
In a heartwarming turn of events, the troop received a significantly larger and better sailboat as a gift from the family of the late Hollywood actor Donald Sutherland. This replacement ensures the Sea Scouts can resume their planned activities.
The troop is now preparing for an active summer, with plans to sail to Catalina Island multiple times and compete in San Francisco Bay. The investigation into the original theft of 'Island Hopper' is ongoing.
