Pasadena authorities recently confiscated approximately 10,000 pounds of illegal fireworks, marking one of the most significant seizures in the city's history. This massive bust occurred on Friday when investigators executed a search warrant at a marijuana dispensary located on Whittier Boulevard near Garfield Avenue in the city of Los Angeles. The volatile materials were discovered by Pasadena Fire Department arson investigators, Pasadena police, and other agencies.
Due to the presence of homemade explosives, the L.A. County Sheriff's Department's bomb squad was called to safely handle the dangerous materials. Police Chief Eugene Harris emphasized the extreme danger of these homemade fireworks, noting their volatility and the unpredictable nature of their construction compared to commercially produced ones. Investigators suspect the fireworks were destined for sale and distribution throughout the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley areas.
In addition to the fireworks, a substantial quantity of marijuana products and an unregistered firearm with high-capacity magazines were also found. Four people were apprehended and are believed to be part of a street gang involved in smuggling fireworks into California from Nevada. The seized fireworks carry an estimated resale value of up to $120,000. Officials highlighted that removing these illegal explosives from circulation is crucial for public safety, especially with July 4th celebrations approaching. All fireworks are illegal within the city of Pasadena.
