The Skagit County coroner confirmed on March 17 that the remains discovered in the Skagit River are those of Krista Hunt, a 37-year-old woman who had been reported missing on February 1.
Prior to her disappearance, Hunt's mother had detailed severe injuries, including bruises, black eyes, and a broken leg, indicating a history of violence. Doctors had expressed concern that further strangulation could be fatal.
Investigators submitted paperwork on March 19 to potentially charge a suspect in Hunt's death. This individual, who already remains in custody for unrelated charges, is known to Hunt. Prosecutors are seeking to add a charge of second-degree murder against him.
