Two senior officials from a Kolkata momo manufacturing unit were arrested by Narendrapur police on Friday, January 30, 2026. The arrests of the unit's manager, Manoranjan Sheet, and deputy manager, Raja Chakraborty, are in connection with a recent fire that destroyed the premises and two adjacent godowns in Anandapur.
This development follows the arrest of Gangadhar Das, the owner of the premises and a linked decorator company, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Das was remanded to police custody and is currently being interrogated to establish accountability for the factory's operations and management on the day of the tragic fire.
Officials have recovered 21 body parts from the fire site. Authorities stated that a definitive death toll cannot be confirmed until DNA testing is completed, as the recovered remains may belong to one or multiple individuals. The arrested officials are scheduled to appear before the Baruipur sub-divisional court.
