In Kolkata, a 28-year-old man, Balaram Rajbanshi, who had been bedridden since 2017 following an accident and subsequent surgeries, was found murdered in his home on Sunday. The initial scene suggested a robbery, with valuables amounting to Rs 1.5 lakh reported missing from the ransacked room.
However, police investigations revealed a grim familial motive. Balaram's elder brother, Krishna Rajbanshi, aged 33, has been arrested and confessed to the murder. The motive stemmed from a property dispute and Krishna's alleged desperation over the financial strain caused by Balaram's repeated medical treatments.
To conceal his crime, Krishna allegedly bludgeoned his brother, targeting areas of previous operations, and then deliberately ransacked the house. He also reportedly locked the family's pet dog in an adjacent room to prevent it from raising an alarm during the attack, which occurred between 8 am and noon.
