An excise team in Kochi faced an alleged assault on Saturday at AKG Nagar Colony in Thammanam. The incident occurred after officers apprehended a resident, Akshay Kumar, and seized methamphetamine from him. During questioning, Kumar reportedly implicated his friend Vaishakh in procuring a larger quantity of MDMA.
When the plainclothes excise team attempted to locate Vaishakh, he allegedly arrived on a motorcycle, resisted arrest, and pushed the officers. Subsequently, a group of Vaishakh's friends, father, and other residents reportedly gathered, attacked the officers, freed Vaishakh, and helped him escape. Four people were taken into custody for assaulting public servants. The excise department has filed a complaint, and efforts to trace Vaishakh are underway.
