Puna police have registered a fresh FIR against known offender Kirti Patel concerning defamatory videos posted on social media. The videos are alleged to have targeted a Surat-based trader and his family. Suspended Bhavnagar police constable Nayna Baraiya has been named as a co-accused in the case.
According to the trader's complaint, Patel uploaded videos containing defamatory statements about the trader's wife, who serves as a sarpanch in a Bhavnagar village, and his brother. The trader also alleged that Patel created and circulated these videos at Baraiya's instigation.
The situation escalated when Patel allegedly made threats via phone and, after being informed of the trader's intent to contact police, filmed another defamatory video inside the Puna police station itself. She reportedly caused a disturbance outside the station later that night before issuing further threats through a video message and leaving. Charges have been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for defamation and relevant Information Technology Act provisions. Patel has prior criminal cases and was previously detained under the PASA Act.
