Killer's Life Sentence Increased to Whole Life Order
26 Mar
Summary
- Man serving sentence for murder has jail term extended.
- Girlfriend stabbed 19 times outside her London home.
- Court orders offender will never be released from prison.

Shaine March, who murdered his pregnant girlfriend Alana Odysseos in east London, has been sentenced to a whole life order by the Court of Appeal. This means he will never be released from prison.
Odysseos, 32, was stabbed 19 times with a kitchen knife on 22 July 2024. March, who was on licence for a previous murder conviction from 2000, had initially been jailed for life with a minimum term of 42 years.
The Court of Appeal deemed the initial sentence "unduly lenient" and quashed it. Lord Justice Edis highlighted the death of the unborn child and the fact that Odysseos's other child witnessed the attack as serious aggravating factors. March's brain injury was not considered a major cause of his offending.
March, who watched the proceedings from HMP Belmarsh, apologized to Odysseos's family. The solicitor general welcomed the ruling, emphasizing that Odysseos was a loving mother whose life was tragically cut short by a man with a history of violence.
