Summary
- Driver helping hitchhiker was murdered and car stolen.
- Killer gouged out his eyes and bit tongue in jail.
- Killer sentenced to two consecutive life sentences.

A driver's act of kindness tragically ended his life when he stopped to help a stranded hitchhiker on Interstate 16. The hitchhiker, identified as Robert Keller, 32, murdered the driver, Bruce Dupree, 43, dragged his body to a median, and stole his car. This occurred on October 14, 2024.
Keller was apprehended at a hotel with Dupree's vehicle. A Bulloch County jury convicted Keller on ten counts, including murder and armed robbery. While awaiting sentencing, Keller inflicted severe self-harm in jail, gouging out his eyes and biting off part of his tongue. He claimed these actions were to avoid responsibility and be moved to a medical prison.
During his sentencing hearing, Keller made erratic declarations, calling himself a 'divine being.' Judge Matthew Hube contrasted Dupree's helpfulness with Keller's depravity, stating Dupree represented 'the best of us' and Keller 'the worst of us.' Keller received two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.
