On November 16, 2025, a shocking 'Wild West' murder case came to a close as 24-year-old Awad Abdel Samad was sentenced to 27 years in prison for the brutal killing of 19-year-old Mohamed Abdi. The incident occurred last June in Westminster, central London, when Samad and Abdi, who knew each other, got into a street fight after driving down Edgware Road in separate cars.
As Abdi tried to retreat to his car, Samad attacked him with a knife, stabbing the teenager three times in just 25 seconds. Samad then fled the scene, even traveling to a hospital in Luton under a fake name to receive treatment for his own injuries sustained during the attack. However, police were able to use CCTV footage and phone data analysis to identify and trace the suspects, leading to Samad's eventual arrest months later in a dramatic convenience store takedown captured on video.
In addition to the 27-year murder sentence, Samad also received 12 months for possession of a bladed article. The getaway driver, 27-year-old Mohamad El-Hazzaa, was jailed for three years for perverting the course of justice. Prosecutors described the killing as 'like something from the Wild West', underscoring the shocking and brutal nature of the crime.
