13 May
Summary
- Solapur man identified as key handler in pan-India kidney racket.
- Over 6,500 pages of WhatsApp chats expose the syndicate's operations.
- Two Delhi and Trichy-based doctors are currently absconding.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is nearing the end of its probe into a vast pan-India kidney trafficking network that extends internationally. Ramkrishna Sunchu, based in Solapur, has been identified as the central figure responsible for orchestrating the illegal organ trade.
Sunchu allegedly located vulnerable donors, arranged finances, and coordinated transplant surgeries with implicated surgeons. Investigations revealed extensive operations through over 6,500 pages of WhatsApp chats recovered from Sunchu's devices. He allegedly operated online as 'Dr Krishna' through a Facebook page to recruit donors and manage payments.
Further investigation has pointed to the involvement of a Delhi-based surgeon and the managing director of Star KIMS Hospital in Trichy. Both doctors are currently absconding after higher courts denied their bail requests. Police have issued non-bailable warrants and lookout notices as teams search for the fugitives.
A detailed 5,000-page chargesheet has already been filed in court, with a supplementary charge sheet expected soon. The case initially came to light after a debt-ridden farmer from Chandrapur underwent an illegal kidney transplant abroad, uncovering the larger syndicate that preyed on financially distressed individuals across India.
