A 23-year-old man has been arrested in Bihar by the Aarey Colony Police for the kidnapping and sexual assault of a minor girl from Mumbai. The accused, who met the 17-year-old victim on Instagram, lured her away from her home on April 20th. The investigation faced challenges as the girl had performed a factory reset on her mother's phone, deleting their conversation history.
Authorities managed to overcome this hurdle by obtaining a photograph of the girl with the accused from one of her friends. This clue, combined with initial online threats received by the friend, allowed police to identify the accused and his connection to Delhi. The investigation then led police to Samastipur, Bihar, where the man was apprehended.
The rescued girl reported that she was first taken to Vasai and sexually assaulted before being moved to Delhi and subsequently Bihar. The accused had reportedly promised to marry her. The Aarey Colony Police registered the case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
