Ayiroor police have apprehended a 21-year-old man from Tamil Nadu, bringing a six-month manhunt to a close. The accused, Sakthi Vel, originally from Dharmapuri, was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor girl.
He initially connected with the survivor online, building trust before luring her away with a false marriage proposal. The investigation revealed he took her to Tamil Nadu, where the alleged assaults occurred. He later brought her back to Kerala and abandoned her in an isolated area.
The victim's family reported the incident to Ayiroor police, leading to a case under the Pocso Act. A dedicated team pursued leads across two states, eventually tracking Vel to Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu for his arrest.
Vel was brought to Thiruvananthapuram, where his arrest was formalized. He has since been produced in court and remanded to judicial custody, concluding the intensive search.
