- A 61-year-old man received the death penalty for a 2025 double murder.
- The court deemed the crime 'rarest of rare,' citing multiple family murders.
- The convict was previously sentenced to life for another murder.

A court in Kerala has awarded the death penalty to a 61-year-old man for the January 27, 2025, Nenmara double murder case. The Palakkad Additional Sessions Court found Chenthamara guilty of murdering his neighbors, Sudhakaran and his mother, Lakshmi, labeling the crime as falling within the "rarest of rare" category.
The court also imposed a Rs 20 lakh fine on Chenthamara. He was found guilty under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder and wrongful restraint. The court noted that the convict had killed multiple members of the same family and showed no remorse.
Chenthamara was released on bail in January 2025, shortly before the double murder, having been arrested for the 2019 killing of Sudhakaran's wife, Sajitha. He had previously been sentenced to double life imprisonment in Sajitha's murder case.
Following the verdict, the victims' daughters, Atulya and Akhila, who were orphaned by the killings, expressed relief but noted they continued to live in fear due to the accused's intimidation. A relative appealed for government support for the orphaned sisters.
