On 2025-10-02, a violent family dispute erupted in Thrissur, Kerala, over land papers. According to the police, the accused, Vishnu, a resident of Muthrathikkara, attacked his father, Shivan, an auto driver, with a machete following a heated argument.
Shivan and his wife had gone to Vishnu's rented house to inquire about the land records, but Vishnu allegedly told them he had thrown the papers into a well. The confrontation quickly turned violent, with Vishnu slashing his father in the kitchen and again outside the house, chasing him with the knife. Shivan's wife and a relative managed to escape and raised an alarm.
The police and fire teams soon surrounded the house, and Vishnu, armed with knives, locked himself upstairs and threatened to take his own life if the officers moved in. For over three hours, officials and locals tried to break open the windows and roof tiles to overpower him. At one point, Vishnu even jumped onto the terrace of a neighboring house, pressing knives to his neck to keep the crowd at bay.
The standoff finally ended around 5:30 pm when the police, with the help of local residents, managed to persuade Vishnu to surrender. He was taken into custody after holding the village for many anxious hours. Doctors have confirmed that Shivan's condition remains critical, as he sustained grievous head and neck injuries and is currently in a coma at the Thrissur Medical College.
