In Kanyakumari district, a serious case involving a minor's pregnancy and subsequent abortion has led to multiple arrests. A 26-year-old married man, Dhanesh, has been booked under the stringent Pocso Act for allegedly impregnating a 17-year-old nursing student.
The minor, a first-year student, had reportedly been in a relationship with Dhanesh. When her parents noticed changes, she revealed Dhanesh was responsible for her pregnancy. Fearing social stigma, her family allegedly discussed the matter with Dhanesh and his wife, Anitha Rose.
Subsequently, the minor was taken to a private hospital in Nagercoil where her pregnancy was terminated. This led to the arrest of two doctors, Kishore and his daughter Saranya, along with nurse Renuka, for performing the abortion on the minor.
Dhanesh, the primary accused, is currently absconding, while his wife has been arrested for aiding in the concealment of the offense. The Kanyakumari all-women police station is continuing its investigation into the matter.
