Summary
- Dominic Miller sentenced to two years for Super Bowl rally shooting.
- Self-defense laws complicated the murder charge against Miller.
- One person died and two dozen others were injured in the shooting.

Dominic Miller was sentenced to two years in prison on Monday following a shooting incident during the Kansas City Chiefs' 2024 Super Bowl victory celebration. Prosecutors stated that Missouri's self-defense laws complicated the initial murder charge against Miller.
The shooting occurred outside Union Station as an estimated one million fans attended the rally. This resulted in the death of local radio host Lisa Lopez-Galvan and wounded approximately two dozen others, many of whom were children.
Court records indicate that twelve individuals brandished firearms during the melee. The legal complexities arose from Missouri's self-defense and defense-of-others doctrines, which require prosecutors to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a defendant was the initial aggressor or did not act in lawful self-defense.
While ballistics initially linked a bullet fired by Miller to Galvan's death, prosecutors lacked sufficient evidence to confirm this. Galvan's family expressed understanding of the legal challenges, stating that accountability still matters.
Lyndell Mays is slated for trial next year on charges including second-degree murder, accused of being the first to fire. A 15-year-old involved has already been sentenced to a state facility for youths.
