In a shocking incident on Thursday afternoon, retired woman sub-inspector Manju Lata Dubey was targeted by bike-borne miscreants in Kanpur's Rawatpur area. The assailants snatched her gold chain, estimated to be worth around ₹1.5 lakh, in broad daylight.
The crime unfolded as Dubey stepped out to offer water for worship. Two youths on a motorcycle approached her; the pillion rider, feigning to ask for directions, suddenly grabbed the chain. When she resisted, he shoved her to the ground, attempting to steal her bangles before they escaped.
Authorities have responded swiftly, with two police teams now dedicated to identifying and apprehending the perpetrators. Checkpoints have been established to deter further incidents and aid in the ongoing search for the accused.
