In Kanpur, police successfully recovered 2.5 quintals of unlicensed fireworks on Friday. The illicit cache was found concealed within 10 cardboard cartons on the third floor of a godown located in a densely populated neighborhood. This discovery highlights a significant safety hazard, especially with the upcoming Deepawali celebrations.
The seized fireworks were reportedly being stored for resale at inflated prices, bypassing essential legal and safety regulations. Authorities emphasized the potential danger of explosion or serious accidents due to the improper storage of these explosive materials.
During the raid, police apprehended Wasim, who was present at the godown. He could not produce a license for storing the fireworks. Investigations revealed that his relative, Sonu, allegedly arranged for the fireworks to be stored there. Sonu managed to evade arrest and is currently sought by the police.
A case has been filed against the arrested individual under Sections 223 and 228 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 5 and 9B of the Explosives Act, 1884. The operation underscores the ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and enforce regulations concerning hazardous materials.
