In Kanpur, a tragic dispute over bonfire wood led to the fatal shooting of a 45-year-old security guard. Nirmal Singh Chandel was on duty at the Agricultural University construction site when an argument with a colleague, Aniruddh Dwivedi, turned deadly. The disagreement arose when Dwivedi added wood to the shared bonfire, resulting in verbal abuse and a fatal gunshot.
Dwivedi allegedly fired his double-barrelled licensed gun, hitting Chandel in the chest. The accused then fled the scene, heading towards a nearby jungle while issuing threats. Fellow guards attempted to intervene but Dwivedi escaped. The victim, who supported his wife battling cancer and their young daughter, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Police have launched a murder investigation and a manhunt for Aniruddh Dwivedi. Authorities confirmed the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Officials stated that upon the accused's arrest and recovery of the weapon, they will recommend the cancellation of his gun license to district authorities.
