In Kanpur, a 30-year-old woman's death at her in-laws' residence in Juhi Safed Colony has been deemed suspicious. Her family has come forward with serious accusations, alleging that she was murdered by her husband and in-laws due to unmet dowry demands. The family contends that the victim was strangled, and her body was subsequently hanged to stage a suicide.
According to the victim's father, the deceased, Akanksha Mishra, married Anurag Bajpai on April 23, 2024. He further stated that for approximately eight months post-marriage, her husband had been pressuring her to obtain Rs 20 lakh and a Bullet motorcycle from her parental home. These demands, allegedly accompanied by abuse and assault when not fulfilled, were reportedly not fully disclosed by Akanksha due to social stigma. The family also revealed that a significant sum of Rs 4 lakh was taken from them about two weeks prior to the incident.
Authorities were alerted when the in-laws contacted the victim's parental family, reporting her death as a suicide. Upon arrival, the family's suspicions were heightened by alleged injury marks on the victim's neck, wrists, hands, and legs. The Kidwai Nagar police have registered a written complaint and are awaiting the postmortem report to proceed with further investigations.
