According to police statements, Rathod allegedly attempted to assault officers Shivalinga, Anil, and Sanganna during the apprehension.

Inspector Gurugowda Patil discharged his firearm, shooting Rathod in the left leg in what authorities described as self-defense. The injured suspect was subsequently admitted to GIMS Hospital for treatment. City Police Commissioner Dr. Sharanappa SD visited the hospital to check on the condition of the injured officers.
