Although he still has several weeks of limited activity and is on antibiotics, Roam is reportedly in good spirits, recently enjoying his first bath since the ordeal.
This incident highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement animals. Roam, the department's first gun-detection dog, was too young for a protective vest at the time of the stabbing. New state laws have been enacted to crack down on individuals who harm or kill law enforcement animals, particularly after the death of another K9 in 2023.
