Juvenile Driver Arrested for Fatal Prayagraj Bridge Crash

A tragic accident occurred on October 29th, 2022, in Prayagraj, India, when a juvenile driver caused a collision that led to one death and several injuries. According to the Cantonment Police, the accident happened on the Chaufatka over-bridge when the driver of a Safari vehicle, traveling at high speed and in a negligent manner, struck three motorcycles and one scooter.
The impact of the collision resulted in serious injuries to four people, three of whom were taken to Motilal Nehru Hospital (Colvin), and one to a private hospital. Sadly, despite medical intervention, one of the victims, Rohit Kushwaha, succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, the police registered a case and formed teams to trace and apprehend the driver. During the investigation, a juvenile offender was identified and taken into protective custody on October 29th, 2025. The vehicle involved in the accident was also recovered from a forested area near Mariyadih Bamhrauli, where it had been abandoned.
The juvenile suspect confessed that he had taken the vehicle without the owner's permission from outside the residence of Mohammad Shad in Kareli. While driving across the Chaufatka bridge, the minor panicked, lost control of the steering, and crashed into the approaching two-wheelers. Fearing the consequences, he fled the scene and later abandoned the vehicle in the woods.
The car was reportedly jointly purchased in Delhi by Chandrasekhar Pal (a resident of Mundera, Prayagraj) and Mohammad Shad, and the ownership transfer (NOC) is currently under Chandrasekhar Pal's name. The police have placed the juvenile suspect under supervision as per legal protocol, and further proceedings are underway.
