College Student's Death: Missing Chain Sparks Questions

Spanish authorities have confirmed that the distinctive gold chain and rhinestone cross belonging to Jimmy Gracey, a 20-year-old University of Alabama student, have not been recovered. Gracey's body was found in the water near Port Olimpic, Barcelona, days after he was last seen partying at a local nightclub. Police concluded his death was accidental and caused by drowning.

During a search from March 17 to March 19, Gracey's wallet, containing cash and identification, was found floating in the water. His phone, however, was located in the possession of an individual facing charges for an unrelated crime. This individual was cleared of any involvement in Gracey's death, with investigators suggesting they may have found the phone on the street.

While authorities maintain the death was accidental, citing surveillance footage of Gracey walking alone towards the water and autopsy results indicating drowning, some details remain unexplained. The intact wallet is presented as evidence against robbery, but the missing jewelry, particularly the gold chain seen in his last known photo, continues to be a point of concern for his family. Gracey was laid to rest in his hometown of Elmhurst, Illinois.
