23 Oct
Summary
- Three former students arrested for attacking school principal.
- Attackers sought cash and a mobile phone from the school.
- Principal remains critical but shows some signs of improvement.

Three minors, formerly associated with St Michael School in Jharkhand's Khunti district, were apprehended within two days of an assault on its principal. The incident occurred on the night of October 21, when the principal, Father Benedict Barla, was found unconscious with severe head injuries. He was subsequently hospitalized in Ranchi, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Authorities reported that the arrested minors confessed to entering the school with the intent to steal cash and a mobile phone. During the incident, they allegedly panicked when they encountered Father Barla, fearing identification, and subsequently attacked him before fleeing. The stolen items and cash were recovered from the accused. A fourth minor involved in the incident is still at large.
Medical updates on Father Barla indicate a critical but improving condition. While his vital signs have stabilized and other organs are functioning, his brain injury remains a significant concern. Doctors are focused on managing his condition and assessing the full extent of the neurological damage before considering further treatment options. He has not yet regained consciousness.
