30 Jan
Summary
- Actor Jayaram's statement was recorded by SIT regarding Sabarimala gold.
- The probe investigates missing gold from temple artefacts.
- 12 arrests have been made, including two former TDB presidents.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has interviewed Malayalam and Tamil actor Jayaram as part of its inquiry into alleged gold misappropriation at the Sabarimala temple. Officials recorded Jayaram's statement at his Chennai residence concerning his involvement in religious rituals that reportedly used gold-adorned copper plates.
Investigators are scrutinizing Jayaram's interactions with Unnikrishnan Potty, the primary accused in the gold theft case, and exploring any financial transactions between them. Videos of Jayaram at a 2019 Chennai religious event organized by Potty, which allegedly used temple artefacts for gold covering work, prompted the questioning.
The SIT is currently investigating two primary cases: the reported removal of gold from the Dwarapalaka idols and from the Sreekovil's doorframes. This probe has resulted in 12 arrests to date, including two former Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) presidents, B Murari Babu and S Sreekumar, who were later released on statutory bail.
