Two coordinated police encounters in Jaunpur district resulted in the apprehension of four individuals involved in arms smuggling. On Sunday, a joint team from Sarai Khwaja and Baksa police intercepted motorcycle-borne suspects near Chhunchha culvert. During an attempted escape, the suspects opened fire, leading to retaliatory shots from the police that injured two smugglers, identified as Goodluck Tiwari and Shashank Singh alias Sahil.
Recovered from Tiwari and Singh were two pistols, ammunition, a motorcycle, and Rs 1.25 lakh in cash. They confessed to their long-standing involvement in the illegal arms trade and mentioned three accomplices. An alert was subsequently issued, leading Tejibazar and Badlapur police to intercept three more suspects near Kalinjara culvert.
During this second encounter, Rahul Yadav sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg and was arrested along with Vipin Pal. Their third accomplice, Atul Singh, managed to escape. This operation led to the seizure of a pistol, cartridges, and Rs 1.30 lakh cash, bringing the total cash recovered across both incidents to Rs 2.55 lakh.
