Forest officials in Jamshedpur have arrested four men in connection with the smuggling of protected maritime coral. The operation, which took place on Saturday, resulted in the seizure of three kilograms of coral from a hotel in the Sakchi area.
The recovered coral is designated as a Schedule I species under the Wildlife Protection Act, highlighting its endangered status. Authorities indicated that this type of coral commands a high price in the grey market, suggesting significant illicit trade.
The arrested individuals, identified as residents of Ranchi and West Singhbhum, are reportedly cooperating with investigators. They have provided leads that are crucial to uncovering the larger smuggling syndicate responsible for this illegal trade.
