A woman in Jaisalmer has died from severe burns after her husband allegedly set her ablaze while she was sleeping. The incident occurred late Sunday night in Ranisar Kachchi Basti, under the Kotwali Police Station's jurisdiction. The victim, Kamla, sustained approximately 90% burns and was initially taken to Jawahir Hospital by her husband, Prakash Od, and his family.
Following her critical condition, Kamla was referred to Jodhpur for advanced treatment. She sadly succumbed to her injuries early Tuesday morning. The husband's initial statement to the police claimed his wife had set herself on fire. However, evidence gathered by investigators suggested otherwise.
Police discovered that the couple was sleeping outdoors, and only their bedding had caught fire. Given that the husband was also sleeping nearby, their account seemed improbable. Kamla's parental family, who arrived on Monday, alleged a history of dowry harassment and assault against her since her marriage nine years ago.
Based on the family's complaint and their own investigation, police have registered a murder case against the husband, Prakash Od, and detained him for questioning. The involvement of other family members is also under scrutiny as the investigation continues.
