Summary
- Two electricians arrested for stealing copper wiring.
- Thefts occurred from under-construction buildings.
- Stolen materials valued at Rs 4 lakh to Rs 4.5 lakh.
Jaipur city police apprehended two members of a gang on Sunday, who are accused of stealing copper wiring and electrical cables from under-construction buildings. The arrests have cracked a series of thefts that have targeted newly built houses in Jaipur over the past few weeks. The accused are also suspected of committing similar offenses in other police station areas.
Investigations revealed that the apprehended individuals, identified as Mahesh Kumar Meena and Hansraj Meena, exploited their profession as electricians. They would survey under-construction properties, identify vacant sites, and then return at night to steal copper materials. A breakthrough occurred following an FIR filed at the Vaishali Nagar police station, where a security guard reported missing electrical wiring from a house.
CCTV footage showed two men scaling a compound wall and entering the premises between 1:30 am and 3:20 am on July 5, fleeing with the stolen property valued between Rs 4 lakh and Rs 4.5 lakh. During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to their modus operandi, admitting they used their electrician work to find vulnerable properties. One gang member acted as a lookout while others committed the theft. Stolen copper materials have been recovered, and efforts are underway to link the accused to other reported cases.
