Jack Tweed, widower of Big Brother star Jade Goody, has been disqualified from driving for 12 months after pleading guilty to drug-driving. The 39-year-old admitted to driving his Volkswagen Golf while under the influence of cannabis. The incident occurred on December 6 last year on Three Mile Hill, near Chelmsford, Essex.
Tweed was stopped by police who suspected cannabis use. A roadside test and subsequent blood sample confirmed the presence of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the active component in cannabis, above the legal limit. He was fined £692, ordered to pay a £277 surcharge, and £85 in costs.
He explained to the court that he had used cannabis the night before to help with sleep due to depression and anxiety, but acknowledged it was a "stupid decision" to drive the next morning. Tweed, who has seven previous convictions for 14 offences, including a past drink-driving conviction, stated he now works as an electrician and is seeking alternative methods for managing his mental health.
