- The attack occurred at a middle school in Istanbul's Basaksehir district.
- The assailant, a student from another school, acted at random.
A shocking incident unfolded at a middle school in Istanbul's Basaksehir district on Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of one student and injuries to eight others. The attack, which began around 8:40 am, involved a 15-year-old student from another school who indiscriminately stabbed young pupils.
Authorities confirmed that one of the injured students succumbed to her wounds despite extensive medical intervention. The remaining seven students continue to receive treatment, with some in critical or serious condition. The assailant, reportedly wearing a school uniform, was apprehended by police shortly after the incident.
Istanbul Governor Davut Gul stated that the attacker targeted the students at random. This event echoes similar incidents of youth-related violence in Turkey, including a shooting outside a school last month and previous attacks in April that raised public concern over school security.
