Shocking Hazing Video Surfaces from University of Iowa
20 Feb
Summary
- Over two dozen blindfolded pledges found in fraternity basement.
- Police body camera footage captured the disturbing incident.
- Fraternity suspended for four years until 2029.

In November 2024, Iowa City police and university officials responded to a fire alarm at the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity house at the University of Iowa. Responding officers discovered over fifty blindfolded pledges in the basement, many covered in different substances. Newly released body camera footage from this incident shows the grim scene.
The University of Iowa conducted an investigation and determined the fraternity had violated policies on hazing and misconduct. As a result, the fraternity was suspended for four years, with its earliest reinstatement date set for July 1, 2029. One individual, Joseph Gaya, was arrested for interference with official acts but his charges were later dismissed.
Social media users have reacted strongly to the circulating footage, with many condemning the hazing as "stupid" and likening the scenes to horror movies. Despite the university's suspension, the fraternity's Instagram account shows recent activity, though the university maintains the group is unrecognized and unsupported during its suspension.
