Woman's Terrifying Window Leap After Killer Kicked Door
26 Feb
Summary
- Woman escaped killer by jumping from window, injuring spine.
- Police admitted early incident was not given deserved attention.
- Killer threatened rape and violence before multi-victim attack.

A woman narrowly escaped serious harm when she jumped from a first-floor window to flee Valdo Calocane, who was kicking at her door. The incident occurred on May 24, 2020, over three years before Calocane's fatal attacks in June 2023. The woman sustained spinal injuries and endures constant pain. She testified that Calocane's actions made her believe thieves were attempting to break in, leading to her desperate escape.
During the Nottingham attacks public inquiry, it was revealed that an officer told the woman she was brave and that Calocane could have killed her. She expressed anger that Calocane, due to mental health issues like schizophrenia, was sent to a psychiatric hospital instead of facing jail. Police acknowledged that Calocane's earlier arrest on the same day for damaging a different door was not treated with the necessary urgency, and crucial body-worn camera footage from that arrest is now missing.
