Summary
- Gunmen fired 70-80 bullets into a car at a gas station.
- The victim was an innocent woman, not the intended target.
- Suspects used a car stolen earlier in the week in Mississippi.

A tragic case of mistaken identity resulted in the death of an innocent woman at a Louisiana gas station. Early on Thursday morning, gunmen fired an estimated 70 to 80 shots into a vehicle, killing 50-year-old Patricia Shepard. Hammond Police Chief Edwin Bergeron Jr. emphasized that Shepard was an "absolute innocent victim" and had no connection to the incident.
The perpetrators had reportedly been stalking a car, believing their intended target was inside. However, the target had exited the vehicle before it proceeded to the Chevron gas station. As the victim exited her car and went inside the station, the suspects pulled alongside and opened fire. Investigators are seeking at least two to three suspects, who were driving a car stolen in Mississippi.
