Pei 'Lu' Chung, a 34-year-old aspiring influencer from Taiwan, is reportedly facing deportation from the United States. Chung has been arrested seven times for allegedly orchestrating a dine-and-dash scheme, targeting 11 upscale restaurants across New York City. Her most recent arrest involved refusing to pay a nearly $150 bill at Mole Mexican Bar and Grill in Williamsburg.
Chung arrived in the U.S. on a student visa in 2019 and attended Brooklyn's Pratt Institute. While her current immigration status is unclear, she has also worked in coding roles for companies like Vanguard, Comcast, and Chase Bank. Following the expiration of her lease in August 2024, she accrued over $40,000 in back rent, leading to a court order to vacate her apartment by December 1.
Authorities have issued an immigration warrant for Chung, and she is currently held at Rikers Island on $4,500 bail. Immigration attorneys suggest that even if she makes bail, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is likely to detain her. Her criminal charges are believed to have triggered the immigration warrant, potentially leading to her removal from the country.
